Temple Terrace began in the 1920s as one of the first golfing communities in the United States. Census estimates put the median build year at 1982, and about 4 in 10 homes went up before 1980. The Hillsborough River, which the city names as its flooding source, runs through town. When an older house or a flood-damaged building has to come down, you need a demolition contractor in Temple Terrace.

Temple Terrace is its own city, with 26,690 people in the 2020 Census. Most homes here went up long after the city's 1920s start. Census estimates show more of today's homes date from the 1980s than from any other decade, about 3,600. About 2,400 date from the 1950s and 1960s, and only about 200 from before 1950.
When one of these older houses is past repair, we take it down with the garage and any additions. The excavator brings the structure down, and the debris leaves the lot in our dump trucks. Then we break out the slab and foundation so the lot is ready for the next build.
Old driveways, patios, walkways and slabs come out with concrete removal. If the backyard has a pool you no longer want, pool removal can go on the same job. We finish with land grading so the lot sits level and sheds water.
Temple Terrace was first planned in the 1920s as a Mediterranean Revival golf course community. Riverhills Drive, a 4-mile road along the Hillsborough River, dates to 1921. Temple Terraces Inc. also developed a 5,000-acre orange grove, which the city calls the largest in the world. The Temple Terrace Golf and Country Club still exists, and Florida College now uses some of the community's oldest buildings.
The city's Historic Preservation Office notes that historic structures are limited in number. Club Morocco, built in 1924, became the original City Hall and later Florida College's student center. It was demolished in 2017. In 2023, the city adopted Ordinance 1550 to run a historic preservation program for its landmarks.
The program aims to keep changes to locally designated structures architecturally appropriate, so these homes carry review requirements. If your house is designated or may qualify, check with the city's Historic Preservation Office before you plan a teardown. Once you have the city's answer, we plan the demolition around it.
The city names the Hillsborough River as its potential flooding source. The river flows through the eastern and southern parts of Temple Terrace and forms part of its southern boundary. Built in the 1960s and 1970s, the Tampa Bypass Canal redirects river floodwater to Tampa Bay. The nearest river gauge for the city is at Fowler Avenue.
In September 2024, Hurricane Helene's highest rain total in Hillsborough County, 4.55 inches, was measured near Temple Terrace. After Hurricane Milton in October, the Hillsborough River set record-high crests. At Morris Bridge the river crested at 38.16 feet on October 12. That beat the 34.66-foot record set after Hurricane Irma in 2017.
The city's flood page also covers the 50 percent rule. It applies when repair or improvement costs equal or exceed 50 percent of a building's market value. Our post on the FEMA 50 percent rule explains what comes next. The city says all floodplain development needs a permit, so ask how the rule applies to your address.
Temple Terrace funds redevelopment in an area where the city wants a downtown development. That area takes in property on North 56th Street and Bullard Parkway. On one historic Bullard Parkway property, current plans keep the 1920s Mediterranean Revival building.
Commercial demolition covers block and frame buildings, retail and restaurant spaces and small warehouses. Some spaces only need a new interior, so we strip them to the studs and haul out the debris. Once a building is gone, excavation and site prep removes the old slab and grades the pad.
Fowler Avenue runs near the city's northern edge and is the main road to the University of South Florida. Wherever your commercial unit sits in the city, our commercial cleanouts clear out leftover contents and haul the trash away. That covers tenant turnovers and foreclosures for landlords and property managers. For job-site waste and storm debris, we offer debris hauling.

Global Construction did an outstanding job demolishing the original single-story, ground-floor portion of our home after it was flooded by Hurricane Helene. This was a highly complex project that several other companies declined because the original house had to be carefully separated from the remaining garage and ADU above, while also preserving the existing pool. Their team handled the demolition with skill, professionalism, and great attention to detail. They took on a difficult project, completed the work safely and efficiently, and delivered phenomenal results at a very fair price. We are extremely grateful to Global Construction and would highly recommend them to anyone needing an experienced and dependable demolition contractor.
We needed help demoing affected homes from the hurricanes in late 2024 to dry them out and thankfully we were connected to Mike and his son and their crew. They were great to work with, they were punctual, they were respectful and we all around a great experience working with them.
