Land grading is shaping the ground to the right height and slope so rain runs off it. Global Construction and Home Repair grades lots, yards, building sites and driveways around the Tampa Bay area. A yard that holds water after a rain has low spots or a slope that runs the wrong way. When the ground tilts toward the house, water collects along the foundation. Regrading a yard reshapes the ground so the water has a clear path away.
The Florida Building Code calls for lots to be graded so surface water drains away from the foundation. An older yard can lose that slope over the years. We cut and fill to bring the slope back, and the crew does the hand work close to the house.
University of Florida soil scientists say most soil north of Lake Okeechobee formed from sand. Florida's most common soils mostly drain poorly. In many of them, the water table sits at or near the surface for much of the year. When the ground can't soak up more water, the grade has to carry it off.
A lot is rough when the last load of debris leaves. There are ruts from the machines and holes where a slab, footings or stumps came out. Lot grading turns that into even ground with a slope that drains.
Rough grading comes first. We cut the high ground and use that dirt to fill the low ground. Fill goes down in layers and gets packed so it holds. Finish grading follows and smooths the surface to its final slope.
Grading and excavation often happen on the same lot. Deeper digging and big loads of fill are excavation and site prep work. Old driveways and slabs in the way come out first as concrete removal.
Dirt and gravel drives wear down with use. Rain cuts ruts, and the low spots hold puddles. Driveway grading reshapes the drive with a slight crown or side slope so water runs off the edges. When a paved drive is planned, we grade the ground first and the paving contractor takes it from there.
Land leveling works the same way on open ground. Uneven ground gets cut and filled until it is smooth, with enough fall to shed rain. It suits a lot that sits low at one end or ground left rutted by heavy trucks.
Every grading job starts with a look at the ground. We check where the water sits now and where it can go. Truck access matters too, since fill and extra dirt move by dump truck and trailer. Before the excavator cuts, we contact Sunshine 811 so the utility lines get marked.

Hillsborough County requires a demolition permit, and it wants utility sign-offs before it issues one. A licensed asbestos inspector surveys the buildings the state rule covers. We work around the permit and the survey, and we confirm what your address needs.
The excavator comes in and the structure comes down. Anything you are keeping stays protected while that happens. Debris goes into dump trucks and trailers as we work.
The last loads go out, and the slab and foundation go with them when you want them gone. We grade the ground so the lot sits level. Then you have a lot you can build on, sell or use.
